We have been having so much fun getting to know each other these past few days. We have such a great group in grade 3.
Spelling
We have submersed ourselves into our spelling. Students will be quizzed and get their new words each Monday. If your child happens to be absent, the words will be posted on the blog under the spelling tab to be caught up on.
Language Arts
The last week we celebrated each member of our class by writing about our favorite parts of ourselves. We were able to log into our computers and learn about Google Classroom and all the cool features it has to offer.
We have also started working into our Daily 5 routine. Students have been practicing their independent reading and have already worked up to 6 minutes of uninterrupted reading time! Well done grade 3!
I started reading the novel Frindle to the class. The students are enjoying laughing along with this school based tale.
Math
We have started our first unit patterns and relations. Students are reviewing and practicing counting forwards and backwards (adding and subtracting) from a given number.
We have also enjoyed playing math games with a partner.
We have started our unit on Rocks and Minerals. Students have been learning about the three types of rocks: igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. We will be studying the characteristics of each kind of rock as well as learning how to distinguish them.
Social
In Social we are learning about Peru. We have been studying quality of life, as well as the geography and daily life of the Peruvian people.
