March

Some students helped me take a fun picture right before we headed outside for recess on Monday.

Swimming information:
Swimming lessons start right after our return to school. Please read the memo below from the Leduc Recreation Centre. Don't forget your bathing suit April 19.

Laser City Read to Win contest.
You may have found one of these in your child's kanga pouch this week. After each book your child reads write down the title, date and sign the page. After 10 books return the page and your child is entered into our class draw for free laser tag for two at Laser City. You can enter as many times as you like in the month. So in other words, the more you read, the more chances you have to win. We will do draws in April, May and June.

Our beautiful Easter Pysanka tree.

Thank you to everyone who came out to student led conferences. It was so nice to see the students light up to show you everything we have learned thus far in grade 3.

March

Student Led Conferences
Please don't forget to join us Wednesday March 21 for Student Led Conferences. It will be an open house style from 3:30 - 7 pm where you are welcome to drop in and your child will lead you through centers to showcase their learning. If you require an appointment please call or email to book.

Language Arts
Students have been practicing pieces of narrative writing. We continue to work on adding details like showing emotion instead of telling emotion, describing the importance and the why objects are in the writing.

Math
Students have been learning about geometry or shapes. We have learned there are many different types of shapes and they all have such interesting names. We have looked into angles, vertices, and edges. As well as symmetry and congruency. There was a homework sheet that went home Friday that will make a great review for next week's wrap up.

Social
We have wrapped up our unit on Ukraine and moved into our unit studying India. We learned some exciting facts in the introduction presentation. Today, students got to practice their map reading skills and studied the geography of India.

Science
Our Testing Materials and Design unit is finished and students will get the chance to apply what they have learned in our Building unit coming up on Monday. A letter with supplies needed for this unit was sent home last week, and an email was sent home today as well if you need a digital copy. We are so excited to get building!

Art
This week students made pysanka, a traditional Ukrainian egg decorating activity. This ties in perfectly with Easter as well as our Ukraine unit in social studies.

Have a great weekend!

Mindfulness and Bridges

Pink Shirt Day
It's been a great week at East! We wore our pink shirts on Wednesday for Pink Shirt Day to raise awareness about bullying. For the past couple of weeks, everyone has had the chance to write some thoughtful bucket-fillers to thank others for brightening their day. Ask your child what it means to be a bucket filler!

Science Challenge
The whole school participated in some science challenges during their science time. Grade 3s focused on their building skills and created bridges that can hold a social studies textbook. Check out the great photos of us building our bridges!

Mental Wellness
Friday was an awesome end to the week as everyone got to take part in some mindful activities to promote mental wellness. Ask your child about the relaxing and mindful things they did today.

Have a great weekend!
