Happy Friday!
Book Fair
The book fair has wrapped up and East Elementary earned over $1000 for new books for the library. Thank you for all your support!
Language Arts
This week students worked hard on a Halloween writing piece. We brainstormed adjectives (describing words) that had to do with Halloween characters, feelings, and setting and students and wrote a Monsters Wanted poster. They had a lot of fun with this.
Math
Students worked hard this week learning place value and representing numbers in pictures and expanded form. Don't forget to that Mathletics usernames and passwords are in each students agenda if you are looking for extra practice at home.
Science
We finished up our Rocks and Minerals folders this week. Several students brought in rocks that they had found in their yard. We looked at the rocks and talked about whether the rocks were igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic rocks. We will be doing some rock testing next week and then will wrap up our unit with a test. Stay posted for a date for that test!
Peru Presentation/ Social Studies
We had so much fun this week in Social Studies! We are learning all about Peru.
On Thursday afternoon we had a special guest in our class named Mr. Christy. Mr. Christy showed us a lot of pictures, movies, and stories from Peru. We even got to make a special Peruvian souvenir which will be sent home next week once we finish the last step. What a fun way to wrap up our unit on Peru!

October
Wow, can you believe we're 6 weeks into the school year!?
Airport Field Trip
We were so excited to go behind the scenes at the Edmonton International Airport. Thank you to Mr. Bertolozzi for hosting us. We had a blast. Here are a few pictures to recap our trip.
Spelling
We have been working very hard on mastering our spelling for the past 6 lessons. This week is a review week of the past lessons, we will do our usual quiz Monday morning.
Language Arts
We continue to work hard building reading and writing stamina during Daily 5. Students have also been analyzing different types of writing including narrative, expository, and opinion and deciding when it's appropriate to use each type of writing.
Math
We recently wrapped up our patterns unit. I am pleased to report that most of the students have a good understanding of patterns. Where most students seem to lack confidence is counting and finding patterns in numbers when counting backwards. Extra practice at home counting backwards with two digit numbers will be beneficial for all students.
Science
In Science we have learned about the 3 types of rocks, igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary, and how they are formed. We will be learning more about the rock cycle including how soil is formed.
